Es war so gemütlich an unserem Platz, die Sonne schien und das Meer war ruhig – einfach traumhaft. Die Parkplatzsuche in den engen Gassen gestaltete sich jedoch schwierig, und ein Parkplatz am Hafen erschien uns aufgrund des langen Aufstiegs und der befürchteten Dunkelheit beim Abstieg ungeeignet. Also kehrten wir um und fuhren Richtung Split. Bei Dugi Rat entdeckten wir einen Strand mit geöffneten Cafés. Wir suchten einen Parkplatz und gingen etwas spazieren. Es schien eine Mischung aus Fabrik und Wohngebäude gewesen zu sein. Die 1914 von der italienischen SUFID gegründete Fabrik „Tvornica“ in Dugi Rat produzierte Karbid und Zyanamid (Kunstdünger). Ein 1912 errichtetes Wasserkraftwerk lieferte den Strom. In Hochöfen wurde Kalk mit Holzkohle zu Karbid umgewandelt und mit Stickstoff zu Zyanamid verarbeitet. Die Fabrik produzierte jährlich etwa 25.000 Tonnen Zyanamid. ![](https://www.brigitteundrolandunterwegs.com/content/images/2026/10/20250101_6511.jpg) *Postcard from Dugi Rat – Source: [Archives of dugirat.com](https://dugirat.com/novosti/106-arhiva/?ref=brigitteundrolandunterwegs.com)* Nahdem SUFID 1929 die Konzession verlor, wurde die Fabrik in „La Dalmatienne“ umbenannt und erweitert. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde sie von verschiedenen Mächten besetzt. Nach der Verstaatlichung produzierte sie weiterhin Karbid, Zyanamid und später, in den 1970er-Jahren, Ferrolegierungen. Nach dem fast vollständigen Produktionsstillstand im Krieg der 1990er-Jahre meldete Tvornica 2003 Konkurs an. Das Gelände ist nun mit über 1,67 Millionen Kubikmetern Abfall kontaminiert, darunter auch im Meer entsorgte Rückstände.
